Erin MacAirt is inspired by the surroundings she finds herself in whether Sussex, Cornwall, Bolivia or New Zealand; the natural essence and energy of a place 'seep into my work like the ink into the paper'.

Erin creates highly detailed pastoral fairytale images using pen and ink, watercolour, paint and more recently etchings. As such her work is a response to the natural environment while at the same time being an exploration of the symbolism of images and archetypes; she is fascinated with the relationship between nature and the metaphysical.

'Symbols such as the forest, the small cottage and the sea evoke a sense of nostalgia which resonates with our genetic memory and childhood dreams. Gold is often present in my work; symbolic of eternal wealth, mysticism and magic;  the alchemist'.

Erin studied BA Fine Art at Middlesex University London, 2000-2003; and is inspired by the 'The Ancients' (William Blake, Samuel Palmer, Edward Calvert and George Richmond) and the work of Eric Ravilious, Paul Nash, and Cecil Collins.
